How was your weekend?
I had a great weekend, thanks to some good friends and excellent food. We started off on Thursday with dinner at Boxing Room in Hayes Valley followed by a birthday party at Bourbon & Branch.
Boxing Room has taken over the old Citizen Cake space, and it is an awesome addition to the neighborhood. The Southern Louisiana cuisine is majorly delicious as well as being well-priced. I highly recommend the flounder and the charbroiled oysters!
Bourbon & Branch is a fun speakeasy-style bar in the Tenderloin that reminded me of The Back Room in NYC. The drinks are delicious but take forever to prepare. I almost cried when Nick spilled my drink, which-I kid you not-took nearly 40 minutes to get! I nearly yelled at the bartender, “Do you know how long I’ve waited for a cocktail?! How much effort it took me to get here tonight?!!”
Friday night Nick’s brother came into town with his boyfriend, so we did a bit of exploring and touring around, including eating at Ebisu in the Inner Sunset (where I found a smiley face in my ginger), Vik’s in Berkeley (authentic and cheap Indian food), Ici in Berkeley and Tartine in the Mission. Thankfully I also got a long run in!
I ended the weekend curled up next to this cuddle bug, still trying to figure out how a Pakistani girl has a baby with blue eyes. What are the odds?!
